It’s your first time in Morocco?
Find out the 10 thing you must do in Marrakesh.
Morocco is a beautiful country you’ll truly love. Magical, colorful, enigmatic, a little chaotic, imperfect and for that reason amazing!
My first time there was so magic and lovely, I enjoyed every moment of it. I went in winter, so it was the perfect weather to walk and spend a lot of time searching for hidden spot or just getting lost in the souk.
If it’s your first time traveling to this awesome country, your first stop must be Marrakesh.
The Red City it is divided into two parts, the French side a mix of a modern and cosmopolitan wave built in the middle of the twentieth century and The Medina the ancient part, built by Sultan Youssef Ben Tachfine. At the very first moment you get inside to the Medina you can feel all the tradition that involve this country.
Let’s start with this bucket list, on the 10 things you must do in Marrakesh if it is your first time in this beautiful a colorful city.
1. Menara Gardens
So close to the Atlas Mountains, at the westside of Marrakesh you’ll find this beautiful garden built in the 12th century. Great for spend an afternoon and relax.
Bahia means “Brilliance”. Built at 19 th century, you’ll see all the essence of Moroccan art in this Palace and finally fall in love with this amazing culture.
By the time you get inside this gorgeous place you’ll be able to appreciate every detail of this piece of art made Palace.
3. Majorelle Garden
An Oasis in the desert, this is how I describe this beautiful garden. Designed by the French artist Jacques Majorelle. Filled with exotic plants from around the world, birds and small pool, this is an artist work.
You won’t regret this visit, the amazing colors and the peacefulness, all the view, it will give you a relaxing journey.
4. El Badi Palace
The masterpiece of Saadi Ahmed El Mansour, This ruined palace was built around 1593, and it is a must see in Marrakesh history.
Built with the best material, gold, crystal and turquoise, was one the most beautiful and biggest, palace in the country.
5. Ville Nouvelle
The modern side or the French side of Marrakesh, filled with designer’s shops, but also cute cafes and restaurants you must try.
In winter it is the perfect place to walk around and find great spots to buy souvenirs.
6. Stay at the Souks.
If your a planning to travel Marrakesh, the best place you can stay is at the Medina. There you will find any type of hotel or hostel (depends on how much money do you want to spend).
Actually is the best way to really feel the culture.
Inside the Medina, things are more traditional, but you get used to it, also thing are more chaotic, but in a good sense. There’s a lot of people walking, shopping, and you will hear the call for pray.
You may find some kids and young men willing to help you to find anything inside the medina for money, it can be helpful the first time when you arrived and need any direction to find perhaps the hotel, but after that, try to be polite and say no to that help, even if they are persistent.

7. Shop and bargain.
Do you want any souvenir?, (cheap ones) go to the souk, walk, and dance, be a boss on the art of bargaining. Trust me you will learn how to do it in Morocco and after that, you will be a professional.
The main rule is go low with the price, very low and play whit it. And if the sellers accept your offer you must follow the next simple rule: Buy the product because you won the bargaining.
8. Jamaa El Fna Square.
It hasn’t changed very much since the foundation of Marrakesh on 1070, gathering market traders, snake charmers, and place of the reunion of storytellers. The only thing that change (thank God ) was that at the beginning it was also the place for public executions.
You won’t see that anymore, now it a big place where you’ll find, everything: orange juice sellers, henna painter, snake charmers and by night you can find the storytellers declared by the UNESCO as the Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Just be awere of Pickpockets.
9. Koutoubia Mosque.
Close to the Jemaa El Fna square made with red stone is the highest and most emblematic building you’ll see in Marrakesh.
10. Try Morrocan food.
Finally, on your trip to Marrakesh, you can’t go without trying this dishes.
For breakfast don’t miss a delicious omelet with olives bread and honey.
Tajine it is great for dinner, served on a traditional pottery you can ask for Lamb, fish, chicken or vegetable tajin. Always come with olives and rice.
And as a signs of friendship a tea it’s always welcome.
